Six by Nine Online Services - Terms of Service and Legal Notices
Updated 30 August 2024
Your Responsibilities to Us and to the Community
All content posted on the public systems we operate is the property of the poster. Because users on our services may post content intended for adults, you must be 18 years or older to use our services.
We want to support your freedom of speech, but that speech must be responsible. We won't let you use any of our services to create, share, publish or access content that incites hate, that directly harms others, or that's illegal in the United States of America or the U.S. state of Oregon.
Examples of content we don't allow include:- content that violates other people's intellectual property rights
- hate speech based on race, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, physical characteristics, age, disability, or disease;
- others' personal information shared without their consent;
- actual, apparent, or photorealistically illustrated child sex abuse material (CSAM).
When we're made aware of content that violates any of these rules, we will act quickly to remove it from our systems. Depending on the content, we may also make a report to law enforcement and/or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
You also may not use any of our services:- to send email spam or other unsolicited messages;
- to harass or stalk others;
- to intentionally waste or misuse our resources; or
- to cause harm to other computer systems.
If you're concerned about any content or behavior on our network, write to abuse@4d2.org, call +1 636-442-4242, or write to:

If you see a user with a 4d2.org MXID violating these terms anywhere on Matrix, you can also report them to us here.
Our Responsibilities to You and to Your Privacy
To provide our services, we need to collect and process some of your personal data.
For example, if you register for an email or Matrix account, we'll need to collect a username, password and email address from you to create that account. In addition, if you create content using that account—like public posts, messages or files—we'll need to collect the content you've created so we can provide the service of sharing it with others.
We also keep logs of things like your IP address, browser type and version and access timestamps as part of software logs. We retain these logs for a short time for technical support purposes: either to troubleshoot our own issues, or to help you when you request support. We don't use this log information for tracking, analytics, or marketing, and we don't share it with any third parties. We neither accept nor display advertisements, and we don't use any third-party tracking or analytics tools.
We may also use your data to ensure the safety of our community—for example, using text filters to automatically identify and remove hate speech. This kind of analysis might happen either automatically or manually.
Your data is stored on servers that we either own or lease from our hosting providers.
Our EU-based hosting providers are Hetzner Online and BunnyWay. We have Data Processing Agreements with them as required by the GDPR. If you'd like a copy, contact the Data Controller at the address on the top of this page.
Our US-based hosting providers are Tier.Net Technologies LLC and Wasabi Technologies LLC.
Your Right to Own Your Personal Information
At any time, whether or not the GDPR applies to you, we will voluntarily provide you with copies of any information we have about you, make changes to that information at your request, or close your accounts and purge your personal information from our records. To make any of these requests, please contact our Data Controller via email at gdpr@4d2.org, or via postal mail at the address at the top of this page.
Please provide as much information as possible to help us respond to your request. Since we don't usually collect real names or mailing addresses from our users, other details like usernames, email addresses and IP addresses can help us find your records.
